Midi squads are the next progression from Bounce Club and involve 2 x 1 hour sessions per week. The basic techniques taught in Bounce club will be built on for those who have moved up from Bounce. For those who are playing for the first time basic techniques will be taught for the main shots (forehand, backhand, serve & volley). There will be more of a tactical focus for midi squads to help the children to learn how to rally with each other and eventually to play friendly matches against each other.
The main difference between Bounce Club and midi squads is the size of the court and the type of balls that are used. The midi court, as it is known, is 3/4 the length of a full court and is slightly narrower at the sides as well making it more proportionate the physical size of the players. The balls used are not normal tennis balls but they are in between the full court balls and the mini balls used in Bounce Club.
Midi squads take place at various times throughout the week from Monday - Friday starting from 4.30. All of the midi squads then join together on a Saturday morning (11.00am - 12.00pm) for matchplay practice where they will have the chance to practice what they have been learning during the week through fun games and friendly matches.
All of our squads run for a 10 week block 3 times a year (Sept-Dec, Jan-April & April - June). There is normally a half term break during the 1st and 2nd terms. For the dates of the current or next term please take a look at the calendar.
Children on midi squads get 2 x 1 hour sessions per week - the 1st of these takes place during the week (click here for days & times) and then all of the children join together for an optional session on Saturday morning from 10.00am - 11.00pm.
The costs below are for a 10 week session which will (if the calendar year allows for it) include a week for half term where there will be a free day of team matchplay & fun games for Midi Squads. The members cost is only available if the child attending is a member of the club. For details about how to join Belfast Boat Club please click here.
The best racket for children of this age is a 25" or 26" racket depending on age & height. If needed these can be borrowed for the 1st week or 2 and then can be bought at the Club. Click here for more details.
